What ordinary mother could endure witnessing her only son’s torture and brutal execution at the hands of sadistic monsters? How could she forgive his friends and disciples for betraying and abandoning him in his darkest hour?
No ordinary woman could, only one who was without sin from the very moment of her conception – a specially-graced woman set aside from the rest of the human race for just this horrific trial. God chose her not just to conceive himself miraculously in her virginal womb, birth him into the world he created, raise him to manhood and then encourage him to begin his ministry. God chose her to walk with him all the way to Calvary; her familiarly beautiful face, Immaculate Heart and unwavering courage his only consolation in his agony.
And from that Cross Our Lord gave her to us, through the Apostle John, to be our Mother, to be our consolation, to encourage us whenever we fall into the darkness of despair.
