History

“Then the King shall say to those on his right hand: ‘Come ye blessed of My Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. … For I was in prison, and you visited Me.’ " Mat. 25, 34 –36.

Marytown’s MI Prison Ministry began in 1996 by a local housewife and mother named Jenny Lisiecki who was on retreat at the Shrine of St. Maximilian Kolbe. She had already begun making weekly visits to several jails and correctional facilities, bringing the Holy Eucharist to the inmates, and was registered as the Catholic Chaplain of Kane County Jail. When the Kolbe Corps volunteer leader at Marytown learned of her interest in prison ministry, all of the “prison mail” was directed to her.

The MI National Office designated the Prison Ministry and office ministry of the MI. Soon Deacon Patrick Maher joined Jenny, and the team began corresponding with inmates and chaplains, sending bibles and rosaries, information on the life of St. Maximilian Kolbe, and consecration to Jesus through Mary in the Militia Immaculata and the Knights at the Foot of the Cross.

From that small beginning, our ministry has grown into a nation-wide apostolate, with contacts in over 175 prisons and correctional facilities and over 500 inmates who have become consecrated MI members.
