Meet The Staff

Deacon Patrick Maher, T.O. Carm. – Ordained to the Permanent Diaconate in the Diocese of Rockford, Illinois in 1996, a member of the Third Order of Carmel, and 4th degree Knight of Columbus, Deacon Pat was introduced to prison ministry by visiting the incarcerated teenagers at the Illinois State Correctional Facility. Working with the Catholic Chaplain, he provided Bible studies and Holy Communion services for the teens.

He joined the MI Prison Ministry in 2001, and is one of its original founders. He has personally responded to hundreds of prisoner’s letters, and with the financial support of his fellow Knights (Council 11091 at St. Margaret Mary parish, Algonquin, IL) and other benefactors, has been able to supply Catholic Chaplains and inmates with Bibles and spiritual resources. Most of the over 530 inmates who have become consecrated have done so as a result of his pastoral care.

Brother Charles Madden, OFM Conv. – Was born in Baltimore, Maryland in January 1940 and is the youngest of eleven children. He graduated from Mount St. Joseph High School in 1957, and worked at Social Security Headquarters in Baltimore for 10 years. In 1968 Brother Charles joined the Conventual Franciscans. He is the author of Freemasonry: Mankind’s Hidden Enemy and the Mini Catechism (TAN Books), and has written numerous articles over a 30-year period for Immaculata Magazine.

Sandra Barron – A happily married (44 years) mother of three and grandmother of five, Sandy is a Minister of Care, has taught Religious Education and is a 30-year member of a charismatic and intercessory prayer group. Sandy has been a loyal volunteer and an integral part of the prison ministry for over four years.

Therese Chlevin, O.C.D.S. – Terry is a Secular Carmelite who retired from the corporate world in 2006, and has held several part-time or volunteer positions related to evangelization and parish life, as well as writing articles for Immaculata Magazine.

Cory Gauiran – My social life revolves around volunteering. When I first got the call that Marytown needed help for its Prison Ministry it was with hesitance I accepted. Prisoners deserve to be where they are for their wrongdoing. I now realize why I was called to this ministry. It's been a 360 degree turn from my initial reaction. It opened my mind to inspiration and knowledge gained so much more than the few hours I work with the Prison Ministry. God is the ultimate Judge of humankind.
